Workshop description

Discover the power of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help individuals improve their emotional well being.  Individual clients typically present with problematic mood states and feeling stuck in achieving personal goals in work, love and family life.  Most typically there is an interpersonal focus inherent in their therapeutic work or personal blocks that have their origins in attachment experiences.

EFT is a short-term approach that applies attachment theory to understanding individual distress.  EFT focuses on helping people shift the emotional responses that maintain their negative patterns in life and relationships. Through the therapeutic relationship, individual clients are supported in reworking personal blocks and underlying fears that get in the way of attaining their life goals.   This presentation provides an introduction to using EFT, devoting two days to working with individuals.  Throughout both days participants can expect illustrative case examples, video excerpts, and experiential exercises. A further highlight is a live on-site therapy session by the trainer, dependent on referral of a suitable client.

EFT with Individuals will illustrate how the therapist supports individual clients in discovering how their own strategies for coping with stress and threatening situations undermines their quality of life. We will also focus on how in EFT we work to become a safe attachment figure in the room. Within the context of a strong therapeutic alliance, the therapist helps clients tune into their emotional world, listen to themselves and identify their most important needs.   Clients are then empowered to take a new stance, being and behaving in the world in a more fulfilling way.

Learning Goals and Objectives

  • Use attachment theory to formulate individual client issues
  • Track negative patterns, both personally and interpersonally
  • Understand how emotions are both a target and agent of therapeutic change
  • Begin to apply key EFT interventions used to facilitate emotional change
